At the age of 20, as a graduate of Montmorency College and a student at UQAM, I was struck
by a revelation. I decided to stop pursuing my postsecondary studies in order to devote
myself entirely to art. From then on, I was going to devote myself concretely and daily to
artistic creation. Although I don’t understand all its ramifications and value yet, art would
become the adventure I would dive into with excitement, even though I didn’t know what it
meant to be an artist. It was a calling in which I would build my personality. Since then, I have
not stopped learning, still shaping myself day after day and most importantly, my
perseverance fuels my goal: to make a living from my passion.
To give a brief background of my journey as an artist, I first started selling realistic portraits to
those who asked for them, usually people around me. In the age of social networks, they
shared my work, giving me a lot of visibility. Displaying my work with a strategy, I remained
nevertheless an artist in search of identity, looking for the true value inherent to my talent,
especially its societal impact. Moreover, even today, my path is still nebulous. After a journey
full of obstacles, bad decisions and multiple questionings, I would be lying if I claimed to have
found myself completely. However, these adventures always help me rebuild myself and
refine my artistic vision. Above all, a gift or a talent should never be taken for granted and
needs to be preserved, protected and maintained. I view my art to be greater than myself and
I wish to make my creations available to others, to inspire them and to start a conversation.
If I am so passionate about creativity and artistic expression, it is because they have the
power to illuminate and make people dream. I want to tell my story through my art. Composed
of many ups and downs, my journey and its illustration through art can touch and reach many
individuals. In all humility, as a young black man who grew up in a hostile environment and
coming from a single-parent family, my art can indeed reach many. With a multitude of trials
and tribulations, the artist that I am in the entity “Dino Art” has the ability to portray a story and
values. I want to share my quest for cultural meaning with those who encounter my work and
give them a sincere experience. My many references to the past and to childhood are not
insignificant. The complexity of the human being is a well-known fact. We are constantly in an
interpersonal struggle and the return to childhood memories is an inspiration to me. Like this
observation, I also see that at every stage of my life where I have had to find myself, I have
had to find the child who lives in me and who will always live in me.
